Polycarbonate skylights are used as additional lighting for production halls. They are also used in other places - for example, in outbuildings, attics, workshops or shopping malls. Polycarbonate (PC), thanks to its properties, is an ideal material for the construction of skylights and poses no problems when it comes to maintenance and upkeep.

Polycarbonate sheets come in a variety of colors, but for the construction of skylights and light strips, the most commonly used, and therefore the most accessible, are clear (crystal) and milky (opal) sheets. The light transmitted through them has a natural tint.

Benefits of cellular polycarbonate lighting

Chambered polycarbonate skylights, in addition to distributing natural daylight, have several other important advantages:

  • low weight,
  • good thermal insulation,
  • natural light,
  • weather resistance,
  • optimal shape,
  • easy maintenance and upkeep,

This makes polycarbonate skylights superior to their steel and glass counterparts. Reinforced glass skylights are several times heavier and have inferior thermal insulation. Polycarbonate skylights, on the other hand, due to the flexibility of polycarbonate, make it possible to achieve the optimal angle of the curve, so that snow and rain do not settle on the skylight. This makes them require no special maintenance and are extremely weather resistant.

Replacing glass skylights with modern polycarbonate skylights can bring a whole range of benefits. One of the most important is improving the safety of the facility and the people in it. Because polycarbonate is characterized by up to several hundred times greater strength to mechanical loads and higher resistance to weathering (such as high and low temperatures), it is less susceptible to damage than glass with the same technical parameters. Polycarbonate skylights can perfectly cope with such hazards as:

  • snow load in winter,
  • rapid rainfall or hail,
  • changing temperatures rapidly,
  • impacts and other attempts at destruction,

At the same time, they are large lighter, do not weigh down the roof structure, and thus can be used to make even very large glazings, which are characterized by very good insulation parameters. In addition, polycarbonate skylights do not require any maintenance, except for periodic washing. All these qualities contribute to a decrease in the operating costs of the entire facility.

Esthetics of polycarbonate skylights

Polycarbonate skylights are a good solution not only for their durability and other performance characteristics, but also for the remarkable aesthetics that they can bring to interiors such as shopping malls, libraries , sports facilities and other public buildings.

The high transparency of pure polycarbonate allows to bring in a lot of natural light that will enliven any interior, especially during very sunny days. Skylights, which use polycarbonate panels in a milky color, in turn allow to diffuse the light coming through them and thus soften contrasts. This makes it possible to introduce a calmer, cozier atmosphere into the interior. Polycarbonate glazing can be tinted in other colors, thus obtaining interesting aesthetic effects. The use of brown dye will make the interiors atmospheric semi-darkness - in turn, panes tinted in colors bordering on green and blue will perfectly fit into the aesthetics of an indoor swimming pool. The possibilities are many, we are able to adapt the color scheme of skylights to the specific aesthetics of each interior.
